About me…
Hi! My name is Alessia and I am the founder of The Seniors’ Retreat, where my lifelong passion for dogs has blossomed into a fulfilling career. With over a decade of experience in pet care, I’ve dedicated my life to creating a safe, loving, and fun environment for dogs while their owners are away. My journey began with my own dogs of course, to then working at multiple vet practices as an animal care assistant, volunteering at different animal shelters, and over the years, I’ve gained invaluable skills and knowledge that ensure every dog in my care feels at home.

How it all started…
The Seniors’ Retreat was established in 2021 as a dog home boarding business based in York, where I lived for the past 10 years. At the time, I still had my childhood dog, Nunu, who was 17 years old. I had her since she was a few months old puppy and had the privilege to grow with her by my side. Nunu has not only been my life companion but also what inspired me to open my home and heart to other dogs. Since having her, I’ve rescued many more dogs and decided to turn my passion into my job.

Knowledge and Experience
Having adopted dogs from Italy, Romania, China, and the UK, I am well-versed in managing unique behavioural challenges and have a deep understanding of rescue dogs’ needs.
Furthermore, my professional experience in vet practices is complemented by my personal commitment to special needs dogs. I have had dogs which have given me first-hand experience in managing neurological deficits, blindness, canine cognitive dysfunction, incontinence, and various behavioural and mobility issues.
